Well, I got what I wanted, in a way. I got my cushy office job, where I'm for the most part self-directed and working independently. I have a normal, dependable work schedule and a decent-sized cubicle (sans window, but what can you do?). So it doesn't pay quite as much as would be helpful. I enjoy what I'm doing, and I'm using my degree. And I'm not TEACHING. Which is awesome. Everybody always told me that I'd never find a job where I could use my degree but not have to teach (other than performing, of course, but how many people actually make a living doing that?), but they were WRONG. I feel rather triumphant.
Plus I have time to peek on facebook and write the occasional xanga entry.
Also, I can sort of set my own schedule, to a point. Today I took a long lunch and got to see Greg and Erika briefly as a result. It was good to see them, but I wish we could have hung out longer. I miss my friends. They all seem to be flung to the four corners of the universe. I suppose that's what happens when you attempt to explore all four corners of the universe. You end up leaving people behind everywhere you go. It's kind of like leaving little pieces of yourself behind. So in a way, I'll always be in Australia and Hungary and Italy, if not physically.
Speaking of Hungary, Teresa's there right now. I'm still sad that I couldn't go with her this year. But it just wasn't meant to be. I've gotta find a way to get back into creativity and/or theatre. I keep saying "when this happens" or "after we're more settled" or whatever, and I know they seem like excuses. But really, how can I get involved in something when our life is so transient right now? Sure, I've got my stable job. But we're still in temporary housing, which makes life more complicated than you would think.
We did sign a lease for an apartment this week. Our move-in date is set for the 26th of this month, but that of course is dependent on us actually having the rest of the money we need before move-in. We got an emergency housing grant from Temple which paid for the initial deposit. Let's just pray something similar happens to provide the rest of the money. We've been applying for a lot of grants through aid organizations and whatnot. Hopefully some of that will pay off. Literally.
In other news, our party/reception/thing is next weekend. Kristoffer's all bent out of shape because hardly anything's been bought off our registries. I don't really mind that much. It was the experience (and opportunity) of registering that I wanted, and that's what I got. Of course it would be nice if people bought us stuff. But I understand that these are tough economic times in which we're living, and a lot of people already gave us money for the wedding. And the party will be fun anyway. We're getting our wedding cake made into petit fours! They will be super cute and yummy. I need to get to work on the few responsibilies I've been given, namely the slide show. And I need to get a haircut...
And now,
A Public Service Announcement:Kristoffer and I have some free passes coming in the mail for an advance screening of the new Miyazaki film "Ponyo" in Center City on
Monday night! We have way more passes than we really need, especially since everybody we've offered them to so far seems uninterested (which is pretty amazing to me, but oh well). So, if you're interested, let me know. We'll give them out on a first-come, first-serve basis. The only catch is that it's one of these situations where they give out way more passes than they actually have seats for, so you have to get there way early to get a seat. We're going straight from my office to hopefully get there by 6pm. The showing's actually at 7:30. Don't miss out! It should be a fun time.

I'm sure Justin would welcome your input on Everyman - you could replace me. If you were looking for something theatre-y to do.
Also, I just wanted to say that if I were rich, I would by you the castle on your registry. I mean, I assume you put a castle on your registry? I would . . . Here's hoping your money troubles clear up and that you get to catch up with people often (including me, when I'm next in the area).
@warrior_eowyn - Yeah, let me know when you're going to be around. I'd love to catch up with you. Also, I would have put a castle on my registry, but I couldn't find one in a style and color that I liked. So I'm having Kristoffer build me one instead. Once it's finished, you'll have to come visit. Each guest room will be equipped with its own magic wardrobe or vanishing cabinet.
